5 Ways to Stay Cool This Summer

Posted On: August 2, 2013

With past summer highs of over 100 degrees in Ogden, Utah, it’s important to know different ways to stay cool this summer. When the body overheats, health and comfort are compromised. But this doesn’t have to happen. With special cooling tips and modern air conditioning systems, you can enjoy the summer in cool comfort when it becomes too hot.

We’ll start with ways to keep you cool, and then move onto ways to keep indoor spaces cool.

#1: Always Carry a Water Bottle
Before you leave your house in the summer, fill a water bottle completely with ice and top it off with water. There are insulated water bottles you can buy that will keep your water cool throughout the day. Having a water bottle filled with cold water is especially important if you’re going to be running errands, gardening, exercising or doing anything outside. This is a great way to stay hydrated and maintain your core body temperature.

#2: Dress Appropriately
This means your outfit should be appropriate for the outdoor environment. For instance, if it’s a blazing hot 90-plus degree day outside, don’t wear your favorite jeans. You can wear those during a cooler 70- or 80-degree day. If you can: men, wear shorts and women, wear shorts, sundresses and other lightweight clothing.

#3: Maintain Your Vehicle’s Air Conditioning
If the air conditioning in your car isn’t working right, get it fixed a.s.a.p. When cars sit outside in the summer heat, they can exceed outdoor temperatures by 20-30 degrees. That’s hot! When your vehicle’s dash reads 68 degrees, it should actually be 68 degrees inside the vehicle. It shouldn’t be higher. If it is, it’s time to get your cooling system checked by a professional. Fixing the system is usually inexpensive. It usually just requires a coolant adjustment or replacement of small parts.

#4: Maintain Your Home’s Air Conditioning
This is what our air conditioning service in Utah is all about. When you maintain your home’s HVAC unit throughout the year, when summer comes, you don’t have to worry about high outdoor temperatures invading your home. With a well-maintained system, all you have to do is set your thermostat and let your central AC do the rest. Mountain Air provides an affordable and useful utilities maintenance plan for your heating and cooling system. Make sure you have access to cool air when you need it most!

#5: Equip Your Home with the Right Unit
If you recently bought a home or are on the market for an upgraded cooling system, it’s wise to consult a professional technician. The fact is, your home requires an air conditioning unit specific to its size. If your home is bigger and you just get one small unit, you may have a hard time keeping your home cool. Similarly, if your home is smaller and you get a large unit or multiple units, you run the risk of high energy costs and inefficiencies.
